Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School
Atlantic County, NJ
Commissioned as Engineer of Record for the design of mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems, including the Geothermal System, for the new 153,000 s.f. Cedar Creek High School located in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. This two-story, 1,100 student modern-age school contains two gymnasiums, auditorium, media center/library, faculty/resource STEM rooms, theatrical theater and drama rooms, a technology/engineering lab and science labs, as well as a green roof and courtyard. A hybrid Geothermal system was utilized for heating and cooling for increased energy efficiency and reduced costs. As the nearest Silver LEED Certification/Smart Start Rebates were $170,000. Additionally, it earned an award from the New Jersey Schools Development Authority (NJSDA).
Reading School District – The Citadel
Reading, PA
GRA was part of a Feasibility Study to ascertain the practicality and economics for conversion of a Juvenile Custody to community medical center to an educational facility for Reading School District. The recommended design included new building envelope, windows and MEP systems (including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, IT and fire protection), as well as ADA access upgrades. The Citadel now accommodates 1,000 students, blending the existing building area of 200,000 sq. ft., and an additional 30,000 sq. ft. of new construction. The project was completed under budget at cost $27,000,000. The project earned the Citation Award for design excellence from the American Institute of Architects’ Central Pennsylvania Chapter.
Chesterfield Township Elementary School
Chesterfield, NJ
Serving as Engineer of Record, GRA provided MEP systems design including the Geothermal System for this new PreK through 6th grade school serving 912 students. The ground-coupled heat pump system geothermal/boiler hybrid system is served from two 500-foot-deep wells. The school uses high efficiency boilers and energy recovery ventilation systems as part of their NJ Smartstart Buildings Rebate Program. Energy conservation elements include lighting systems with photosensors, variable frequency drives, heat recovery ventilators, programmable lighting controls, and high efficiency domestic water systems. A ground mounted photovoltaic system was included as part of the school’s design and tied into the electrical distribution system. The school was awarded LEED Gold and the amount of efficient renewable energy used/LEED criteria far exceeded the level of LEED Gold certified.
